Mooers Volvo Traffic Safety Day
Saturday October 22nd, 10am to 2pm
Come rain or shine, the showroom doors and entire dealership lot of Mooers
Volvo Richmond will open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday October 22nd
for Henrico County and the surrounding community for families who are eager to
take steps towards educating themselves and their children about Virginia
traffic laws, distracted driving, vehicle safety and safe driving tips.
The *Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles reports that 740 people were killed
in Virginia due to vehicle crashes and over 61,000 were injured in 2010. In
fact, there were over 116,000 motor vehicle crashes in Virginia last year. That
number amounts to thirteen crashes every hour.
Mooers Volvo of Richmond will join forces with the Henrico County Division of
Police and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to instruct parents and teens
about Virginia driving laws, distracted driving, vehicle safety tips and the
truth about teen crashes in Virginia. Teens may also be unclear about the
driving curfews and what the potential penalties may be if they violate them.

Two golf cart driving courses overseen by Henrico Police will demonstrate the
dangers of texting while driving and a drunk driving obstacle course will
feature ‘fatal vision’ goggles. Attendees will be offered the opportunity to
test the automatic braking function of the new Volvo ‘City Safety Features’
and an airbag detonation at Noon will highlight the importance of keeping
children in the rear seat. Other activities will include rotation 20 minute
classes on safe driving tips for seniors and video crash demonstrations. The
State Police “HEAT” trailer will showcase anti-theft protection and there
will also be multiple raffles, free lunch, face and pumpkin painting and a
moonbounce for kids. Free car washes and vehicle safety checks will be provided
by Volvo Technicians throughout the day.
